Q 5. What is FAS-20, its eligibility criteria and the rates for rehab grant
Ans. FAS-20 is upgradation of Family Assistance Scheme with enhanced contribution and rates of rehab grant. The terms and conditions of payment are mostly same as FAS-09.
Eligibility Criteria
- All Death in Service cases are covered under FAS
- Medically boarded out personal covered under FAS with no restriction of service
- Minimum 10 years of service required for Death after Retirement cases. In case service is less than 10 years, one time lumpsum grant is admissible as per the following rules:

Q 6. How can a widow/relative apply for the grant after the death of pensioner.
Ans.Ans. Application from widow along with death certificate is to be forwarded to DAV.
Q 7. Is it mandatory to update the contact details i.e. Address of residence/communication, Mobile No, Email etc.
Ans. Yes, the NoK needs to keep IAFBA updated with requisite details in case there occurs a change. This would enable faster communication and timely release of FAS rehab grant.

Grant for Daughter’s Marriage
Q 8. What is the procedure for obtaining grant for daughter’s marriage. Is the length of service the criterion for grant payment grant for daughter’s marriage?
Ans. IAFBA Grant for Daughter’s marriage is paid to support the marriage of the daughter of the deceased AF personnel. An amount of Rs.1 lakh is paid for Death in service cases and Rs.50,000/- is paid for death after retirement cases. No minimum years of service is required for death in service and 20 years of service is required for death after retirement cases to avail this grant.
Q 9. What are the documents required for applying the grant for Daughter’s marriage.
Ans. Request letter along with copy of PPO for family pension and a Copy of Marriage Certificate is required to be forwarded to IAFBA for processing the payment.
Grant for Purchase of Trade Instrument to Bereaved Wives
Q 10. What is the procedure for applying grant for Trade Instrument i.e. Sewing Machine. Laptop etc. to the bereaved spouse AF personnel?
Ans. IAFBA grant for purchase of the Trade Instrument for self employment i.e. Laptop, Sewing Machine etc is paid to the spouse of the deceased. The spouse is to forward a request letter for payment of grant duly attaching the original bill of the equipment from GST activated firm for payment of grant.
Lump Sum death grant where FAS grant is not applicable
Q 11. What is lump sum grant and how it is paid.
Ans. Under this scheme, onetime lump sum grant from IAFBA is paid to the cases wherein the rendered service by the IAF member does not meet the required periodicity. The payment procedure is same as for the rehab grant Family Assistance Scheme.
